About Us
Christchurch based director, Murray Green, began in the computer industry, in 1970, on the teams of Corporate & Government Mainframe sites. These roles covered Banking, Oil, Manufacturing, Transport, Telecommunications and a variety of NZ Government Systems such as the Customs Dept, amongst others.
The mainframe era largely ended in New Zealand, at about the same time the Internet was quickly gaining ground, so with a couple of colleagues, he launched Avant Internet Services Ltd in 1998.
In 2006, after over 30 years of living and working in Wellington, he returned to Christchurch as a lifestyle choice, only to see the CBD largely destroyed in Feb 2011.
Like many other establishments since, work is now conducted from a couple of home offices in the suburbs, where costs are minimised and travel on the much-more-difficult-to-negotiate roads is not so necessary.

Computer History: As Avant's people have been in the industry, for as long as the industry itself has existed, we are interested in assisting where possible with any future attempts to expand on the few I.T. exhibits that so far exist in New Zealand.
With only a few items on display at MOTAT in Auckland, and a good effort at Auckland University to make some items available for the public to see on their premises, there is precious little else that has been preserved in New Zealand that we are aware of. To assist in assembling more information pertinent to the history of computing generally and the New Zealand experience in particular, we are getting some bits and pieces from our own experiences, and putting them up on this website as time allows.
